Public clouds are platforms that allow multiple organizations to share services, computing resources, virtual machines, applications, data storage and workloads in a fashion that users can access and utilize remotely. These cloud environments tend to be free to use or offered via tiered pricing models (pay per usage). Public clouds tend to be useful for collaboration and sharing of resources. They are not ideal for managing or hosting sensitive data. Organizations choose public cloud environments because they do not have to maintain on-premise resources, they are very easy to scale, and resources are kept in check.
