What is a Shadow Database?

Shadow databases are databases built and used inside businesses and other organizations without the information technology (IT) teams consent or awareness. Shadow databases generally are developed by employees using Google Sheets, Excel spreadsheets, Word documents and other tools on their desktops or shared drives.
