What is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a type of malware in which data on a server or computer is encrypted by a threat actor. In order to unencrypt the data, threat actors demand a payment from the user. In ransomware attacks, threat actors are motivated by financial gain. Attacks are disseminated via infected applications, infected storage devices, compromised web applications and web pages, and malicious attachments.
