What is an Insider Threat?

Simply put, an insider threat is an internal employee or vendor with access to internal tools or data. These can be current or former consultants, supply chain vendors, contractors, or employees. Current or former colleagues become insider threats when they deliberately take action to harm the organization. Insider threat actions include obtaining and trading confidential information, deleting proprietary data, or corrupting business technologies and systems.
